Scientists have found out how often to wash towels

Towels should be washed as often as possible, preferably after the third use. This conclusion was made by American scientists when they calculated the number of pathogenic bacteria on the used tissue. We were horrified too ...

Are towels more harmful than useful?

A group of researchers from New York University have closely studied the indispensable thing from the point of view of hygiene and came to disappointing conclusions. It turns out that towels bring harm to our face and body rather than benefit.

After each use, particles of dead epithelium (upper layer of the skin), feces, urine, food debris and other biological substances remain on the moist tissue. All this is an excellent breeding ground for fungi and bacteria. And the moist air of the bathroom and the elevated temperature create simply ideal conditions for their reproduction.

Just imagine what you can find on a towel if you look at the fibers under a microscope! The Americans were not too lazy, reviewed and suggested urgently changing their attitude to hygiene.

Why wash towels from an expert point of view

The vast majority of bacteria, by the way, get onto the tissue not from the skin of a person, but from the air of the toilet room. If the bathroom is combined, this happens more often and faster. But separate sanitary rooms are interconnected by ventilation passages or by natural current of an air stream.

According to expert hygienist Philippe Tierno, towels should be washed from the bathroom after the third use. This is the only way to avoid domestic infection. Moreover, it is possible to use a personal hygiene product three times only if the towel dries on its own after use.

Thierno, a full-time microbiologist and pathology specialist at the School of Medicine at New York University, is convinced that the specific smell of towels is a sure sign of microbial growth. It is impossible to use such hygiene products; towels need to be washed urgently.

Washing towels against staph infection

In the fibers of the used towels, not only pathogens, but also completely harmless bacteria "take root". Another question is what is impossible to say with which microbes the usual hygiene item is teeming. If the immune system is strong, then it will cope even with potentially dangerous microorganisms.

Despite the fact that most bacteria do not pose a threat to human health, there is a chance of contracting a dangerous infection Staphylococcus aureus (Staphylococcus aureus) - the causative agent of purulent-inflammatory lesions of the skin, mucous membranes and even internal organs. Particularly high probability of catching staphylococcus if several people use one towel.

Wiping the skin with a repeatedly used towel, we simply transfer the bacteria to our body. At least this threatens the appearance of acne.

To prevent trouble, wash towels as often as possible and constantly ventilate the bathroom. In any case, our editors unanimously decided to do just that!
